These Hopeful Machines ~ BT

Nominated for 2010 Grammy Awards in the Category Best Electronic/Dance Album

"...And I love it when you fall for me suddenly..." - Suddenly

One of the best albums I have listen to yet, I can listen to every song and not be sick of it. These Hopeful Machines by BT has something for everyone and a little bit for anyone. The use of vocals in most of the tracks with people such as JES, Kristy Hawkshaw and Christian Burns to name some have a enticing and mesmerizing effect on the listener. BT not only puts on a awesome sequence of songs which should be listened to in order as it is presented. Not only does his use of instruments, synthesizer and his coined "BT Stutter Edit" creates a soothing and serenic atmosphere but also the lyrics having so much meaning with in.

"...Today is the day where I love you..." - The Emergency

The album is divided into two CDs each approximately 50-60 minutes long.

"...I wish I can run, to you when you need me..." - Every Other Way

CD 1 or Part 1

Suddenly ~ vocals by Christian Burns
The Emergency ~ vocals by Christian Burns
Every Other Way ~ vocals by JES
The Light Of Things ~ vocals by JES
Rose Of Jericho
Forget Me ~ background vocals by Christian Burns and Kaia Transeau

"...And I see the light in things, And I watch the world go by, I look inside and feel you in me..." - The Light Of Things

Both parts of the CD are special in their own way, but in my opinion, the first CD is slightly better than the second. What makes this more interesting is the small segments in the beginning of the first song, ending of The Emergency, Every Other Way and Forget Me which usually is either an ambient kinda music or glitchy. The voice of JES draws you in to the songs in the middle and the rock like beginning and end give it a strong sound and something that lasts throughout the time. The use of a non-vocal as second last gives it a relaxing and peaceful entity and a time to move away from the hypnosis of JES's voice. The lyrics have indepth meaning at which I can relate to personally. And the intrinsic use of both orchestral, synthesized and modern instruments generate a natural feeling of music, that this is one musical piece which can easily be study in a modern context.

"...I don't know what you want me to be, But I don't want to be perfect any more..." - Forget Me

CD2 or Part 2

A Million Stars ~ Ulrich Schnauss vocals by Kristy Hawkshaw
Love Can Kill You
Always ~ vocals by Rob Dickinson
Le Nocturne De Lumiere
Unbreakable ~ vocals by Rob Dickinson
The Ghost In You ~ vocals by Psychedelic Furs

"...Love can kill you, Or love can save us all..." - Love Can Kill You

Part two is matches up to the expectations in disc one, however the last song, The Ghost in You puts more of an ambient and relaxing ending as well as something new that is not encountered much in the two CDs. This CD is more upbeat and optimistic compared to the first CD. The use of guitars and percussions as well as the vocals of Rob Dickinson and BT creates a happier tone to the album.

"...If it were me, I'll be Always running, Always running with you, Always..." - Always

Overall this album packs a punch in its use of BT's classical upbringing and his modern electronic genre has created a masterpiece. I highly suggest to people this album and to listen to it over two hours.

"...Somewhere with love in a space I have known, In a massive city of stone..." - The Unbreakable

P.S.: I did a music review since I believe this album does wonders as well as it is part of my aspiration to make people understand the genre of electronic/electronica/trance which is different to that of Hardstyle/Hardcore or Techno.

And to Rain, before we depart, I am thankful for everything. Hope to talk to you in the distant future where ever that may be. And I love you as a good friend, a trusted friend and at points a best friend.

"And it only takes a moment, To step outside and let the rain, Kiss your pain away..." - A Million Stars ~ BT Ft. Ulrich Schnauss and Kristy Hawkshaw
